looking for the plastic tip protectors on the skis for my 83 vmax any help?

i have a 83 vmax 540 and this is the first one i have ever had i noticed a dipstick in the mag side by the recoil housing pulled it out and it looked milky?what is this oil for and why would it look a grey color?i had a srv before and never noticed a dipstick on it/
