'81 SRX reverse cam secondary

Post by Yam429 »

I have an '81 SRX 440 with a comet 108 primary. I have heard that I will need a reverse cam secondary off of a '95 or '96 vmax in order for it to run right. Is this true & will this secondary slide right on or will I need the '95 vmax jackshaft as well? Does anybody know what spring & weights I should be running with this setup? With my current setup (108 & stock secondary) I can only get 42 mph out of this sled at 5500 rpm. Thanks, Reed

Yes the reverse cam off of the newer Yamaha's will fit your secondary shaft. Start with N1 weights and the purple spring in the comet, you will need to clutch it to run at 9000-9250 rpm's. This should get you started..

Which purple spring in the 108? There are two a 207758 or 207888.

I used a new Polaris on mine and cut the 83 sec to open more. Phil had a post on here somewhere which turned me on to the trick.

Shoot I just got the purple 207758A spring delivered to my door today. Am I going to want the purple 207888A instead? How much of a difference is there?
