94-96 VMAX 500 600 different magnetos/stators?

Post by crazy_cowboy_01 »

hi guys. I have a 94 vmax 500. I wanted to put rear grip warmers on the backrest. I noticed in the repair manuals that some machines have a magento/stator with an additional coil just for the rear grip warmers? is this correct? which models have this and which years? is it only the 600 cc's that have this? any part numbers? thanks

I see no difference in the stator of the 1994 Vmax's

But, the 1996's are different

So does that mean that all or most of the stators are prewired with the extra coil for the rear grip warmers?

If you look in the repair manuals you will notice a difference between different years and different engines. In one diagram you will see an extra coil on the magneto where others will not have. That's what I'm looking for.

Was it just the 96 models that came with the rear grip warmers?

If I can't find a stator with the extra coil can I just hook up the rear grips to the battery? Or will that damage the charging system?

Hand warmers on this new of a sled are normally hooked up to a separate AC circuit. On older sleds most people would use the tail light wire which is also, an AC circuit and an use a on/off switch for control. If one was to run a wire from the battery which is a constant DC voltage I would place a fuse near the battery for protection and use the negative on the battery instead of the chassis ground.
