Hey guys. Hopefully this Saturday I'll be picking up a 85 Vmax. I'll try to attach some pictures in a few minutes. Guy says it needs carb and clutch work. Supposedly the comet he had on it exploded and they dropped some carb parts into the belly pan. I'll know more when I get it. Just wanted some opinions on the sled and what I should look for. Picking this up for a song so I'll be buying it no matter what. If all else I can resell it or part it out. Has 5xxx miles on it Picked track. Always wanted one of the older vmax's but they are pretty few and far in between around here. I currently have a 95 dx, a 96 standard and a 96 Vmax 4. Also a 98 srx 600. If all goes well I'll have at least the 85 and maybe some other stuff coming home with me sat. Be glad to be back into a vintage sled.

Howsahemi Don't know much about a Hemi... but, I do have this to help you out !
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1529 The Comets were good for ~1000 miles and then need attention so, if this has over 5k then I can see one exploding !
viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2223 If you are going to put any kind of miles on the Sled with that kind of miles it would certainly need going over from top to bottom. As you can see the 85's are hard to find
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=585 Good luck !

Well just like yamahas hemis are very expensive but the very best and kick ass. That's awesome info on the clutches. Well awesome info in total but very cool and affordable it looks to replace or fix the clutch. I'll do some compression tests. I'm also a little concerned about the carbs being open and the one being off. Should I take the head off and take a look see? Maybe vacuum the cylinders out? I'm sort of jumping the gun. I wI'll pick the sled up today after work and I'll know more then. Buying it no matter what since the price is right. If nothing else it's cool to look at. I may pick up an exciter and enticer from the same guy too. I'll take more pics and give more info including the vin when I get home tonight. Very excited!

80n-000885 is the vin number. Sled is in pretty decent shape. Typical seat issues. One hood hinge wasn't attached. Have to look at that tomorrow. From my initial look over , all that was missing from the carb is the choke plunger So that was good to see. I'll have to look at the clutch more tomorrow. More pics and info to come. I'm going to bed.

Finally got around to kickin the tires a little on the new max. Compression was great. With my gauge I had 150 in both holes. Hood is gonna need some attention. Steering is sloppy. I can grab the ski tips and they really walk around in my opinion and I'll have to take a good look there. Maybe just tiered adjustment? To be honest I've never had to play with sled steering before. That's about all I got to do today. I'll just pick at it. I'd like to open the carbs up and get those situated then I'll deal with the clutch.
