SRX 500

Post by mcbang »

I was at a friend of mine today, his neighbour had some old sleds in the garage. I asked if I could take a look at his old sleds, he said yeah sure. I found one 1983 Vmax 540 in really bad shape, one 1986 in bad shape. He also had some engineparts in the garage. One case had stamped RT449-010102 and the other case had stamped RT449-010103. Is this parts for the famous SRX 500????? He also had som other engine parts, cylinders, head, chaincase and so on for the Vmax 540.
I gave him a offer for both sleds and the parts, I will get an answer in the next days.

I bought both sleds and all the Yamaha sled parts he had. Now I need to drive 400 miles to pick them up. I am not shure what I will do with theese sleds. Maybe restore the 1986 Vmax, and build a vintage drag sled of the 1983 ? There were some SRX 500 (RT499) parts so maybe a SRX/Vmax clone dragsled? I have not decided yet.
Have a nice summer. :D

Picked up the sleds yesterday and got them home. There were 2 spare Vmax 540 cylinders (i have 11 in total now) and a cyl. head, 3 cdi boxes and some other parts. There was also a set of SRX 500 carbs.

Yeah, some emails. He wanted to buy the cases with the engine #. Talked with him on the phone 2 weeks ago, but he was very busy so there was no time to talk about the SRX 500 part`s I bought.
If I understad the engine # on the SRX 500 right, what I got is enginecase number 2 & 3 that is produced. Am I right ???
Have to take a look at the carbs I bought. How can I tell if they are for the SRX 500 ?

The carbs have 8R9 00L and 8R9 00R stamped in to them. So they are SRX 500 Carbs.

I think there is 5 cranks to the Vmax 540 in the garage. Most of them need to be rebuildt. They are not for sale yet. I need to build up my 3 Vmax 540 engines first before I sell any cranks.
Where do you live Tiutsi ??
