1983 vmax grey (milky) color oil where the dip sick go in

i have a 83 vmax 540 and this is the first one i have ever had i noticed a dipstick in the mag side by the recoil housing pulled it out and it looked milky?what is this oil for and why would it look a grey color?i had a srv before and never noticed a dipstick on it/

Looks like you have have joined the leaking water pump seal club. Have fun fixing it its is a real pain in the ass if u can find the parts .

A PROBLEM AND POST THATS BEEN BEAT TO DEATH HERE ON THE 1983 VMAX 540. THATS ANTI-FREEZE TURNING WHATEVER GEAR LUBE YOU HAVE IN THERE INTO CHOCOLATE MILK. THE GOOD NEWS THEY ALL DID IT. THE BAD NEWS YOU HAVE TO FIX IT. MOTOR HAS TO COME OUT AND COMPLETE DISASSEMBLEY. FIND A GEAR HOUSEING FROM A 84-87 VMAX , YAMAHA NEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND FIXED IT AFTER 1983. JUST DID MINE WITH A 1986 GEARCASE. 3:16 (yammie tony)

viewtopic.php?f=2&t=645 It only takes a very little oil I would pull the plug drain the oil and flush it out good then add new and give it a try what do you have to lose on a 30 year old sled with condensation. Capacities- Chain case/ Gear Case Cap. (Type) 250cc/ 25cc (SAE 80W 90 API GL-4)
