WANTED!!!! 1982 SRX 500 RT499-gear box

Post by 82SRX500 »

Guys,

I have networked with many of you over the years and many have helped me connect the dots for restorations I have done on my 82 SRX 500's.

I am in the process of bringing another 82 SRX 500 back to life. I am looking for the VIN'd gear box that bolts onto the end of the crank case that holds the Magneto and ignition. These were used as updates in Canada on many of the 81 SRX's and usually have a VIN: RT499-000xxx. While I would settle for this as well, ideally I would like a gear box that has a "1" in the sequence: RT499-0101xx or RT499-0010xx which relate back to a production chassis and motor. The first example is European and this chassis came from Norway so my first choice would be a gear box that is: RT499-0101xx then next would be the USA issue RT499-0010xx.

If anyone has a Gear Box that is: RT499-010132 now that would be the Jackpot because that is what matches this chassis but you would probably be located in Norway to have that.

If you have a complete motor, crankcase only, pistons, rings, etc.... let me know. Not afraid of international transactions send me and email. Cash read! toizrit@comcast.net

Couldn't you take one of the updated 81's and stamp the appropriate numbers in them. Just a thought.

Yes, I could certainly do that. But I guess I am just a purist at heart. I am not a big fan of clones or fakes. While leaving it blank or restamped is possible, I would rather install a real RT499 marked gear box. I will be Numbers Correct, just not numbers matched that way.

Still interested in buying both those Gear Boxes. Let me know if you have purchased them. Jon

Hello Jon.

I bought both the VIN'd gear boxes that bolts onto the end of the crank case that holds the Magneto and ignition. They have stamped RT499-10102 and RT499-10103 on them. I also have 2 carburettors to the 1982 SRX 500.

I am not going to sell any of the SRX 500 parts yet:(

Best regards from Howard

Howard, thanks for the update. The most important parts I need right now are the carborators. I have many good parts to trade for the 81 srx and 83-87 Vmaxes. And I can source other parts for brands or models that you may need more than these carbs.

Please stay in touch.
