what is the most accurate way to date these engines? Do you just go by the number on the water pump housing? Where else are the numbers?

the serial number on the water pump housing is really the only way... there are also numbers cast into the bottom of the crankcase but i believe they will only be 8M6 ('81) or 8U9 ('83+)
My airbox is held on by one screw, not because Im lazy but because it is less weight!
