Power Air Jet Hose?

Post by Joe »

I was looking at my Owners Service Manual today and noticed something:
Page 3-10 shows a piece of hose attached to the Power Air Jet.
It shows in the lower left photo on page 3-9 also.

It does NOT show that hose on pages 3-3, 3-6 nor 3-7.

I went to http://www.yamaha-motor.com/sport/parts/home.aspx and looked.

The hose shown in my 86 manual matches the hose on the 85 VMAX 22U-14987-00-00

The parts breakdown lists a longer hose 80N-14987-00-00 that belongs on my 86.

My machine does not have either hose installed.

Why were the hoses installed?
What should I be experiencing if they are missing?
Why were they changed for 86?

I think those only installed to eliminate dirt and dust from getting in the air jet.
If dirt does get in the air jet it will go a LITTLE rich. No big deal.

correct.... my understanding is the little hoses are just to keep snow and other crap from getting in there...
My airbox is held on by one screw, not because Im lazy but because it is less weight!
