exciter performance

Post by 8R9SRX »

does anyone know of any good websites for the first generation exciters...? i got a 79 ex 440 and was wondering if a set of srx pipes could be adapted. looks like it should work. i had a 74 GPX i did this to and it worked pretty good.

Try AAEN performance they should be able to help out, but I don't think they will work to well on the Exciter as the SRX pipes are made to run at about 9000 RPM or so and the Exciter is only a 7000 or so RPM motor . The GPX motor was ported to run closer to the SRX so they worked pretty got on it, also the Exciter only has a single carb and it will be hard to get it to breath at that RPM. But if you want to put on duel 38s or so and do some port work to the Exciter you may be able to get them to work. AAEN had a single pipe that worked pretty good on the Exciter so give them a call. Hope this helps!

SRX Pipes

Post by BradSRX »

The SRX pipes work great. No need to do much to the carb, but change the getting. Go one up on the main. You will need the flanges from an SRX. The AAEN pipe sounds nice, but I never notice a difference in preformance. With some clutching and gearing changes, you can make those sled sizzle. Brad

hi brad, have you done this before. i figured i would need to go a couple sizes bigger on the main. also its a reed motor so if i can find individual manifolds maby i could run dual carbs, (something off a rupp nitro, maby). thanks for the info....chris

Exciter carb

Post by BradSRX »

The stock Exciter carb once jetted works great. you may have to go two sizes in the main. I only went up one, unless you are running at temps around 0 or below. Also clutch work will be needed. You can have tons more power from the engine, but if yoy can't transports it to the track, what the use in having more power. You can also get the boyesen reeds for that engine. You can get them through Dennis Kirk part # 18-0181 for $56.95. These will help gaining more power. I know some tricks to make these sleds go. If you wish you can call me at (518) 293-6213. BradImage
