1983 V-Max 540...

Post by INLINE4 »

WOW...I knew I was looking for a fixer-upper but wow....This water pump issue never seems to go away from Yamaha.
Well on a positive note I will rebuild the whole sled...
I noticed one thing.Real tight on trying to make studs work in the track with room from hitting stuff in the tunnel..
Anyone ever remove all the heat exchangers and just loop the cooling thru the radiator with no thermostat..?
Had to get acrank on here from sxr1000.Lucky he still had one left...
Wiil be posting pics today..... :D

Preaty sure I have all the gears/bearings if you need them. A leaky water pump has ruined more than one of these 540 Max's.

First thing I check on any 540 I look at is the gear case oil. If there is antifreeze in it the sled must get real cheap before I'm interested.

Cool sleds though.

Phil...Just bought a complete rebuilt crank on here from sxr1000...For real good price its already done..Of course I will still hold onto my old one...Maybe have it rebuilt sometime in the future..But your right with that gear case stuff..Atleast I still picked up the sled real cheap..$250.00
Still did not want to go this deep with it..My V-Max 4's give me enough work...I guess I just like the abuse..LOL..

The best thing to do is update to the 84 up pump they bolt right in and are easier to find and get parts for. They last a very long time compaired to the 83 pump.
