The Infamous 1983 Pump Drive Gear seal for the water pump !

Post by Vmax540 »

Ok, guys there has to be an answer to this........ ? Yamaha went from a single oil seal in 1983 on the Pump Drive Gear Assembly #93103-25133-00 to a dual oil seal setup in 1984 #93101-25121-00 and #9313-25146-00. They changed the Bearing from #93306-00401-00 (B6004) to the 1984 version #93316-00403-00. The only other change I noticed is the Water Pump Impeller Shaft went from a 1983 # 8M6-12458-01-00 to a 1984 #8X6-12458-00-00

Whats the going rate that someone would be willing to spend on a 1983 water pump seal. I have a few N.O.S. ones i might be willing to sell if the price is right. :?:

The following is from chuck,

Here is what I found at my local bearing dealer. We can use 2 double seals(back to back) on the water pump collar instead of the single seal (#3)which is no longer available from Yamaha.

I found seals to replace the no longer available seal at metricoilseal.com 25x44x7 $4.50 each,it will take two of them and stack them with the springs on the water side,I just hope there is enough room under the impeller.

Fellas,
I also found replacement seals to be used in place of the discontinued seal. An old vendor of my father's machine rebuild shop, W.C. Ducomb in Detroit. He recommended I use a Chicago Rawhide seal of the dimensions needed. I stated that the TCM seal was a high volume cheapy seal, that wears easily based on it's all rubber construction. The Chicago Rawhide version is metal construction with a rubber lip. He also added that having two seals back to back could offer a space to pack with grease as well.

I will forward the part numbers when I receive my order.

Thanks to the Forum for getting me this far.
