1992 Vmax4 front scissors rebuild

Post by Technician! »

Newbie here...great forum!!

I need to rebuild my front scissor arms as they are severely seized. I realize the Vmax 4 has needle bearings instead of bushings. These bearings (12 required) are extremely costly. Can I rebuild them with bushings instead of bearings? Bushing kits are way less expensive, and I will be cleaning and greasing them on a regular basis. Are the dimensions of the bushings the same dimensions as the needle bearings are, so that the bolt collars will all work, etc.?

Thanks in advance!

I have never messed with the Vmax4 scissor bearings but, Have taken many other abused bearings apart cleaned, polished and re-greased with good results. Try asking here http://www.totallyamaha.net/forums/foru ... -4-750-800

I too have had good luck repairing my used ones. If not bad, a good cleaning, if totaled, made new bushings. When kept lubed they have lasted well
