Where are you located Swen?

I have a nice 2300 mile 85 engine I could probably part with.

Re: 1981 SRX

Here are some pics. 81K (1986) case. Waterpump, seals, bearings, etc are all GOOD. It currently has a 540 bearing and seal for the crank in it (both are good). Will come with a dipstick and oil pump gasket. Will need the gasket between it and the engine (still available). This will bolt onto an 81 4...

Re: 1981 SRX

Common problem. Engine has to come out to fix. Entire mag/gear housing must come off and be dissassembled to check for other damage. Antifreeze in the gearcase takes out the gears and their bearings quickly. Rust can destroy all the parts in there and the case. The mag end crank seal can also get wr...

Re: 1983 V-Max 540...

Preaty sure I have all the gears/bearings if you need them. A leaky water pump has ruined more than one of these 540 Max's.

First thing I check on any 540 I look at is the gear case oil. If there is antifreeze in it the sled must get real cheap before I'm interested.

Cool sleds though.

1981 SRX 440 top end

Complete stock top end for 1981 SRX 440. This came off a sled I bought that was stuck do to a rusty water/oil pump drive gearcase caused from sitting with a bad water pump seal. The inside of the crankcase was clean and sled had a little over 1100 miles on it. The chrome cylinders, pistons and head ...

Is that the square wire yellow one Tony??

If so I have one on an 81 up in the barn. Would have to dig it out and get it off.

Re: Witch carb is left which is right?

Look on the front (engine side) of the choke plunger boss of the carbs. Should be stamped 81K-00L (left side PTO carb) and 81K-00R (right side recoil side carb).

PS, The 81K is the prefix for the 86 Vmax. In other years that would be different but the 00L and 00R still designates right/left.

Re: Help bleeding my new oil lines to prime the system?

There is a bleed screw on the pump next to the pump's inlet port (phillips head, faces the right side of sled). With oil in the tank and some rags stuffed under the pump remove the screw. It will allow air to escape and prime the pump. The rags will catch the oil as it purges the air from the system...

Re: Need some help with oil line replacement

The line with the filter is the supply line. The other is return. Only the supply needs to be filtered. The supply line should go from the port on the tank that is closest to the right side (larger port) of the sled and to the port on the pump that is closest to the bleed screw (small phillips head ...
