After reading some posts in hear I'm beginning to wonder if it was a stuck thermostat. At no point did the guage move up towards the red. After the meltdown, one plug looked perfect and the pto side plug was kind of a dry grey. Does this sound like the problem? When you see grey (or silver) on the ...

After you get the clutch off you might get lucky with an easy out.
The clutch bolt does not bottom out when you tighten it and now that it is broken there is no pressure on the bolt and might spin out easily. Good luck...........l
Let us know how you make out.

If you have a volt meter you can test the lighting coils very easily without disassembly. The wire plugs that are just in front of the black recoil and come out of the back of the stator coil. Unplug the black and yellow wires. Use your Ohm meter and test between the black and yellow wires coming ou...

If there are deep scratches in the bore it probably needs to be re-chromed. Try to get all the aluminum off the bore with the muriatic acid first and see how good you can clean it up with the acid. When you say" I think it actually marked the sleeve" that MIGHT only be the aluminum from th...

How do you now there was no compression? Compression tester are cheap you should buy one and test it. Did you pull the starter rope immediately after it died to see if the motor was locked up? If you take it apart don't forget to check the bore for gouges. If there are no gouges but melted aluminum ...

Are you talking about # 51 in the picture.
It doesn't have the same part# as any 81 SRX Shafts, so I would say they are not the same.
I think I have an extra one, let me know and we can work something out.
