I see what you are saying about the fuel pump possibly leaking in from the pulse line. And since the pulse line is in a vacuum, it could pull the fuel in there. How would you go about checking such a condition? I do have a vacuum pump if you think that will help my to do a test.

Thanks

Clutch Spring Colors

I thought I would make this a separate topic so that it is easy to find. Can anyone answer this with certainty... are the YAMAHA spring colors used in the Comet clutches the same as the Comet spring colors listed in Comet catalogs? Example, is the Silver Orange spring that is designated for high alt...

I did try that. The needle and seat are closing off, which is why I thought that the float must not be pushing up against it while it was running. I even started to think that the float somehow wasn't moving freely up the shafts to close off the needle. How do I get those little plastic tabs off the...

That's what I thought, and I figured that when I took the carb apart, I would find a float broken or stuck or even heavy. I didn't have any of that. I think I will replace the floats anyway to be safe. I hope the local YAMAHA dealer has a set laying around.

"83 Vmax clutch and oil

Nice to see you all again. My '83 got a new clutch spring yesterday. I went with the silver spring that originally comes with the 108-C for the Vmax. After getting some advice here in the forum, I added the two 1/8 inch spacer shims to increase the preload and tension throughout the rpm range. The e...

Carbs, Clutches, and Oil... all from a 535 Vmax of course.

Hello to everyone. Finally the snow found western PA near the Laurel Ridges. My brother ('86 Vmax), my Dad ('96 Polaris Indy Trail) and I ('83 Vmax) had the chance to go ride, but we didn't make it very far. My brothers '86 began to bog badly about 10 miles into the trip. I changed out a spark plug,...

Thanks for the picture. I found on the Dennis Kirk website that the 212600 is considered to be FLUSH as far as bore depth. Does that mean that the 212600 won't work? The 208300 has -.245 as you said. What I can't understand is why is it so hard to find a replacement 102C for the 83-87 Vmax's when al...

More on Comet Clutches

Thanks for the info. Can you tell me how a 212600 fits into the mix? I know that it is an uncalibrated model, but you were getting very specific on bore depth and I ca't find that info anywhere that I have been looking. Thanks

Comet 102C Clutch applications

Hey everyone. The flurries are flying and the sleds have been started and moved. Now I am trying to figure out a possible clutch swap. We all know that the 83-87 Vmax's had a 102C on them and for some reason Comet decided to replace those with a 108C which in my opinion just didn't work. Here's the ...

Ride comparision from today

My brother and I had the chance to ride the newly rebuilt sleds, my '83 Vmax and his '86 Vmax. His has Exciter carbs on it right now which were on it when we bought it. Here's what I noticed. His pulls out nice, only needs about 1/4 throttle to hold about 35 - 40 mph at about 5700 rpm. Mine didn't w...

Westmoreland County Snow

Hey all. My brother and I just got back from a ride on the top of Laurel Ridge. This is near Johsntown, New Florence, Jennerstown. The conditions were loose wet powder, about 8 - 12 inches worth. Some light snow falling. The trails on the New Florence side didn't look as if they ewre ridden at all. ...

Brake light issue

With the help of Chuck, I got my fuel valves, which were a pain to install, and I now have the oil mixing in with the gas just before the fuel pumps. I am seeing some air bibbles, but I think that is due to the tank being low on gas. I did find the connector for the tail light and got that back toge...

I partially agree with you Phil. I have a 108C on my Vmax and the belt does not come up to the edge of the flange as you said. However, mine still has the two washers installed so that I can run the stock 1 1/4" belt ( Dayco TopMax 1080 ). My clutch does bottom out and leave that extra 1/2"...

OK, I see. I thought there was a bearing on both sides. I don't have that seal. Sorry.

I was looking at the picture you were talking about but I think #3 is pointing to a bearing. Are you looking for #27 ???
