I had thought about the stuck slide too, but was moving. I snapped the carb a few times and you could hear it bottom out against the idle screw. The needle wouldn't be able to hang up because his slides have the piece with the screw that goes through and holds it all together. With regard to the was...

102 C clutch help

I am in a posting mood, so I am trying to get all my messages out today. Since I was working on my brother's '86 with the carb issue, I decided I would check for wear in the original Comet 102. I am glad I did, otherwise there could have been a real mess, and there still might be. One of the A3 weig...

Wacky Carb

This was a horrid season for riding for my family. We finally had a weekend to get out and ride and only made it 4 miles before an issue arose. My brother's '86 Vmax started to lose power in the left cylinder. The EGT's went from 800 to nothing. It soaked the spark plug with gas and wasn't burning. ...

With the correct clutching, my '83 will turn about 8200 rpm on top end and with enough room in a field I can be over 100 mph without even thinking about it. 60 mph is what mine runs at about 1/2 throttle and about 6500 rpm. Check your clutching, check your carbs, check for restrictions in the airbox...

I'm not sure but I believe the silencer is to far downstream to make any noticable difference except to silence the exhaust ? Ahhhhh, not true. I took my silencer off once thinking I would gain some power. Didn't work one bit. The sled couldn't pull itself around even without me on it. The clutch w...

Runnig, but not like we used to

The weather hasn't been too helpful here in Southwestern PA lately, but I still took the '83 Vmax around the yard a few times in the inch of snow that is here. A bit of background. Last year my thermostat stuck ( I think ) and seized up the motor. I rebuilt it but had to put in sleeves as I couldn't...

If you read in the service manual how to test the thermostat, you will see that it says it starts to open at 104 - 113 degrees F and full open at 140 degrees F. Running in snow with the snow hitting the rear cooler and going through the radiator, I could see how you would never see the temperature g...

It isn't that your gauge isn't working, it doesn't read low enough. I thought mine was bad so I replaced it with a digital gauge from Cyberdyne electronics. Turns out that my water temp while running was about 92 degrees. The stock gauge doesn't even move until over 100 degrees. If you order one in ...

Those are some nice shots of the sleds and the race. I gotta ask, is that really an Enticer 300 in the picture too? I still have my 1980 Enticer 300 (blue) that I used to drag race on the 550 foot strip. I ran a Phazer engagement spring which brought it in at about 5500 rpm. Would stand that thing u...

I bought the cylinders already sleeved and the pistons were included as part of the package along with a head. There were no boxes with the pistons and the rings were already on them. I hope they are right too. I am not sure what will happen if they aren't right. I hope I don't find out. I will rech...

Rebuilt motor doesn't sound right

Hey everyone. Finally got all the pieces back together on the 1983 Vmax tonight. I turned the gas on and pulled it about 10 times without the spark plugs in to prime the carbs. I put the plugs back in and a few pulls later it was running, but just didn't sound the same as it used to. Basically, it w...

When the sled starts to fall on its face, crack open your choke lever which will richen the mixture. If the sled picks back up, then it is leaning out on the top end. This could be a main jet still clogged or just too small, air getting into the fuel from a cracked hose, float set too high and not g...

My '83 headlight is dim any time the engine is at idle. Over 3000 rpm and I don't notice anything odd about it.

My Comet 102C blew apart at about 2500 miles. One of the rollers got a flat spot because it quit turning. Ate the weight and I didn't catch it fast enough and it ate into the spider. I am not sure what the cause of the problem ever was. I had to replace the bushings in the weights last season too. I...
