The best thing to do is update to the 84 up pump they bolt right in and are easier to find and get parts for. They last a very long time compaired to the 83 pump.

Tony the 83 came stock with 6DH10 needles and the 84-87 had 6DH1 needles. When I restored mine I set up the carbs to the 87 specs.
