Two of my co-workers went out Friday and reported there was 6 inches of wet snow on top of glare ice on the trails. The ice was hard and flat. The snow on top did not stick to it so it did not take long for the trail to have all the snow pushed to the side with glare ice up the middle. They put on o...

Snowrail made with VMAX parts
I had an idea last spring to put my sand rail on tracks and skis. After collecting parts for about 8 months, we got the pieces together and into the shop two weeks ago. The tunnels and drive axles are from an SRV and an XLV. The skid frames and tracks are from VMAXs. I expect to find and install som...

That sounds familiar. I found my source coil epoxy had cracked and the wire vibrated loose from the coil to the outside world. I resoldered the connection, coated it with JBweld and it has run flawlessly since then. My lights went out on the last ride, I suspect the same issue. The ohm meter checks ...

If I drop the needle one notch, it blubbers in the mid range and does not come up on the pipe until I go over 90% throttle. It is horrible to ride like that. That was why the clip is in its present position. I'm not brave enough to raise the clip one notch based on the EGT reading. Why does the midr...

KOSO EGT calibration
I have a KOSO dual EGT gauge that is reading 1400 to 1500 degrees F on both cylinders when running in the mid range and 1250 to 1300 at WOT. The plugs come out a Hershey mild chocolate color. I have ridden it over 150 miles like this. If the gauge was telling the truth, would I have melted something...

Snow level report on the Olympic Mountains in Washington
I got a chance to get up to the mountains today in the Jeep. Right at the bottom of the hill, we got pelted with quarter inch hail during a cloudburst. The sun came out several times between showers. There was no snow up to 3400 feet but was knee deep at 3900 feet. The road we chose ended at 4000 fe...

The only time my VMAX shows any heat is when the engine is running and the sled is not moving for quite a while (like idling 15 minutes). Once I start moving, the needle comes way down to the bottom of the scale and stays there. In my opinion, taping an the remote sensor of an indoor/outdoor thermom...

Daffodils coming up
My neighbors Daffodils are three inches tall tonight. Apparently they did not get the message from the groundhog about six more weeks of winter. The snow line has receeded up to 3900 feet in the Cascade mouintains and they are expecting several feet at the crest this week. It will be the weekend aft...

Be careful about pullers. I have COMET clutches with 16 mm, 18 mm and 3/4 inch puller threads. Some of the pullers are soft and the tip mushrooms into the retention bolt threads during hammering. When this happens, there are two bad things happening: 1) the top end of the puller threads are working ...

1) TIMING Mark Left TDC and Right TDC with a sharpie on your clutch. Put a timing light on the marks and see if you are getting both cylinders to fire just before TDC. If the marks don't align, pull the flywheel and inspect the key. If the spark is erratic, check for loose connections from the CDI c...
