Bless the gentleman who once stated: "there are no stupid questions" So my "intelligent" question is how to go about splitting the cases on an '84 535. Here's the point I am stuck at: I pulled the cyls., the recoil, then three jawed off the "flywheel", It jumped off wit...

Stay on those carbs. Make shure they are all clean-clean. Test blow all circuits. Then wind your secondary tight. You'll know. MJD

nozzles

Hey gang!, A question: Yamahas '84 ownerbook states the oem carb nozzle as a 166 Q-0. Thats 166-Q-0. My later teardowns from 86 and 87 each have nozzles 480-Q-0's. 480-Q-0. I guess I need to mic. mine, but kan you tell me if there is any flow difference between to the two, and if so, why did Yam mak...

taking notes...

Mr. Jipcee is so right when he suggests writing down carb calibrations, clutch and Torgue Converter settings, etc. as you go thru calibrating your sled to suit your needs. Don't be in too big of a hurry as you interchange all of these components. Write stuff down. Towards the end of the tuning proce...

Oh Chris, my young friend..

Chris, I struggled so much back in the days of my SRX youth with getting everthing right. Rebuilding engines and chassis, etc. So, after many driving-driven clutch spring-weights combos settings, and often with custom ground weights, I found myself still floundering off the line. It was very frustrat...

VMAX seat.

Hey to the guy looking for a vmax seat cover. I am parting out an ?85 and it has a pretty nice looking seat cover on it. Just walking around it I see one 1" separation along bottom board drivers side and 3-4 piping cracks here-there thats all. Rear flap is still right and turnbuckles are chrome...

Hey, make absolutely sure your belt sits at the top of your TC. The vmax does not have alot of power down low, so move shims 'round and get that belt on top. Good luck. MJD

clutch greasing....

Steve! Lord Jesus, Mary&Joseph! Clutch 'greasing' is explicitly prohibited. Grease draws dust and dust wears out 'da clutch. Use only dry graphite to the fibre bushings, the metal on metal pivoting parts, the weights and ramps etc. Dry lube is how you do it. MJD.
