clutch ques.

Donnie, read your latest post this morning. About the 108's and 102's: Comets first 108 was really just a 102 with larger diameter "discs". I believe it's parts, the weights, rollers, spider were interchangeable. Next from Comet came the 108EXP. It's this clutch that was built using heavie...

108's

Donnie, your 102 sounds like it's shot, but maybe not. Anyway a 108 overdrive is not a bad way to go. The Comet all aluminum 108 EXP is a very good clutch for your horsepower. This clutch has wider load bearing surfaces and longer life than the 102, and still interchanges weights and springs. Don't ...

belt too short?: Big trouble

Don't run too short of a belt on your Vmax, or whatever it is you got. The belt must be of adequate length to smoothly transfer torgue at whatever rpm's. If you go for shift-out and your bellt is too "tight" you may likely bend the crankshaft. Bigtime clutch wobble and engine teardown is w...

carb flood

Donnie the one nylon washer was originally placed above the e-clip. Yamahs reasoning was to hope to minimize needle vibration and wearout in the needle groove area. I've seen needle grooves wear so thin then snap apart. Thats not good, thats not good at all. a person would unscrew the needle retaine...

the muffler of the vmax

Coming back again at you guys with compelling thoughts about Yamaha's silencer sys. for the Vmax. The factory silencer serves a dual purpose: decible quieting and essential back pressure.. In my opinion there is room for compromise of decibles in order to shave the eccess weight of the muffler. I am...

pipe orientation

Weasel where is your pipe orientation project at. Never mind, I'll find it, and thanks for the pics. You is cool. Nevertheless, the bore of stingers embedded in a muffler is not necessarily useful to a tuner because it's part of a back pressure silencer package. And I wanna get rid of that heavy box...

back pressure etc.

Mr. Ottawa, if you do have a blockage in your exhaust, which you need to check, then yes you are suffocating your engine. You know, squirrrels and mice can wreak havoc in the off season, so check that alll out. As you explained your situaton It does sound to me like you got fuel handling problems, c...

airboxes and silencers, too much crapolla,

To this day I still cannot believe that a Vmax person should not rid their machines of workspace-clogged airboxes and suitcase-sized silencers as seen on the factory Vmax. I'm just gonna do it. Change it . Airboxes and carbs: I can figure that out.. Muffler: because of necessary backpressure, I need...

Jeff, I am having trouble opening your link to Royal Dist. I can get there on my own, but am having difficulties finding my way around their site. So tell me please on which page do you find the seal kit for the Vmax? That should take me right there. Thanx. MJD

Sounds like backshift problems. Not unusuall. If so, (vs. engine) it's fairly easy to diagnose. Clean and rebuild transmission to specs and start from there. Let me know. MJD

Awesome, keep it up. You'll get it done cause you got the "power", the mystical power of VMAX. Tuck in your joints though, they'll scrape 'em off. MJD
