Engine removal

So my v-max is turning into way more of a project then I originally thought. My question... Is there anything I need to pay specific attention to when I pull the motor. Also when did yamaha go to the comet 108 clutch? It appears that is what is on my sled. Thanks everyone. its fun to work on sleds i...

Thats kinda what I thought. I am going to see if the local yard has a complete stator that I can just install. Will other yamaha stators work for this? Can someone walk me through the process of removing the stator. Do I have to pull the engine? To think I was told I just had to plug in a new CDI. H...

stator??

I finally got a chance to dig into my 85 v max today. I did some ohm checks on the stator Based on the 86 specs from the article index. Everything checks out except when I try to get a reading from brown to red. I get nothing. Is that telling me my stator is bad? Or is that saying something else in ...

I think my fuel cutoff switch worked. I had the fuel lines off the carbs and I pulled it a couple times looking for spark and pretty much shot old fuel everywhere. So I pulled the lever and tried it again and no fuel shots. The cable still needs to be cleaned up but at least its working.

Update

Well I changed my CDI to a used one that is supposed to be good and still no spark. I tried 2 different ECU's and still no spark. I have no ignition switch so its just an open plug. Am I missing something or do I need to start ohming out coils? Also could it still be the cdi? The one that I took out...

choke lever

Ok since this is the newest sled I have ever had I am going to have some dumb questions. The dash of my 85 vmax has a choke lever on each side of the steering column. What is the second one used for? I also had a cool find tonight. buried under the clutches was a complete factory tool kit. I don't t...

Thats what I was expecting. Thanks

On that note, The threaded fittings that hold the front of the seat down, can they be replaced? One of mine has a bolt broke off in it and th other is extremely crusty.

Seat bolts

I was trying to take off my seat tonight. I started turning the nuts under the tunnel and it appears the entire bolt is spinning. What is the best way to fix this problem? Do I have to cut them or is there a good trick to remove them so I can take the seat off. The front bolts were already broke and...

WOW i didn't realize how burried so deep. No wonder the previous owner didn't want to fix it.

Now for my other question, since I need to remove the radiator, what is the best way to drain the antifreeze? I really don't that ninja blood all over my garage floor. Thanks

Thanks so much for the picture.

And its not that there isn't a key. There is no ignition switch there at all. So it has to be unplugged :)

The air box is out right now. I plan to leave it out, get everything plugged in and check for spark before I pull the carbs to clean them.

85 vmax electrical

Hey everyone. I am new to the vmax world. I just picked up an 85. Its going to be my main rider this year so I am going completely through it. The guy I got it from said it lost spark and that it was the cdi. He already had the cdi box, ecu box and airbox all removed. I have good parts to put in but...

Just wanted to say hi to everyone. I just bought an 85 vmax. Actually it was the one posted in the classified section here. It was about 4 miles from me. Got it for $300. Needs a little electrical work. Lost spark. Otherwise nice shape with 3400 miles on it. I will probably be asking lots of questio...
