81 - 83 for me. I also like the newer seats. Never really liked the crack between the seat and the fuel tank area. The SRV had the nice seat in those early years, why they didn't carry it over to the Vmax I don't know. Thanks.

Hey Johnny,
My two fuel shut offs are like agfirecat stated. After the pumps and they are a very good idea for several reasons as mentionned above. I didn't know the 81 didn't have this feature. Later, Marc

Vmax windshield

I bought an OEM windshield from xtremepower sports on line last winter. It had an OEM yamaha part number on it but it was not smoked, it was clear. Why would they do that? I've never seen a Vmax with a clear windshield. Any thoughts?
I'm thinking of just painting the inside of it.

carburator installation

I read a while back in this forum section about a couple of guys criss crossing their carbs when re-installing. Ive asked guys I know that have snowmobiled for years if there is such thing as a left and right carb, they claim no, a 38mm carb is a 38mm carb. But I agree with the VVM guys, my carbs do...

Thanks for the information Jeff, I had decided not to touch my carbs and leave them stock. Still ready the forum section alot to try and determine what I'm going to do regarding the clutching. 108 EXP, 108c, rebuild my original 102c? I want to keep my stock secondary, maybe get a new spring but that...

1984 porting updates

If I have the 84 updates done on my 83 Vmax will it affect everyday riding and dependability? I don't want to carry a tool bag with me every time I go riding. Could it still be considered stock or just updated to what Yamaha should of done back in 83? I don't want to race this sled, it isn't a racin...

Collars, main shaft and sprocket wheels all still available from Yamaha. I ended up cutting my shaft off with a sawzall when I started my restoration. I bought everything brand new again. Over $1000.00 in my suspension alone, but it looks like just off the showroom floor!!!!!!!!! 1983 Vmax.
