The actual stingers are inside the muffler,, read some where it said, "do not run the engine without being connected to the silencer/muffler". Can't remember where I read that but here's a look at the stingers, Other pics are in my "Jetting related to pipe orientation?" topic,,,...

I would call Aaen and verify before I cut anything, just to be absolutely sure, it's that important. Do you notice the two stingers being different in the pics? One is "near" 1- 1/8th inches I.D. (for the pipe with extra bends) the other is near 1" I.D. The 1" one has a longer st...

The stinger I.D. and length is a major part to the pipe tuning for a perticular engine. They are mostly a pressure relief valve and a very specific one at that. I would like to think that the silencer/muffler would be made as to not interfere with the pipes tuning rather than being part of it. I cou...

Thanks for the response sir,, opsled said something similar about the application of this engine a while back. The buggy has a 10:1 forward-neutral and reverse gear box and was never really intended for the dunes, sand robs too much power and I knew that going in. Trouble is , I didn't know what I h...

Jetting related to pipe orientation?

I have a good question for some of you here,, I'm the nut thats using an 83 V-Max in a minibuggy. I have flipped the pipes upside down to get them away from the suspension links and drive components. After "jefflanthier's" post in "Main jets" I saw that the jetting was different ...

sheave "off-set", what does it do?

Some of you here already know I'm the idiot thats going to run an 83 V-Max motor on a mini buggy. While trying to weed out the potential probems before hand I came across the "sheave off-set" requirement stated in the V-Max owners manual. I'm fabbing the engine mounts at this time and I'm ...

Hi weasel, I see you found the site. There is a drain plug on the bottom of the gearcase (10mm wrench). Pull it out and if there is no signs of water or anti freeze in it you should be good. It is a good idea to drain, flush and replace the gear case oil on occasion. The book calls for replacement ...

Round up the Posey boys looks like we have a hanging to do.......... :) No sweat, every one thats is parted keeps others running and makes ours more valuable ! Your pump seal may last a lifetime but, you never know ! I really need to take one of the 83 waterpumps apart and take a seal to a bearing/...

A "Crime" I assume

I'm probably a real enemy here,, my self imposed crime is "dismantling a pretty good 83 540V-Max" with 1258mi to use the engine and drive for a mini buggy. To my defence, I admit I was ignorant, I didn't really know I had a "legendary" sled. My main concern (after reading many po...
